So our Florida trip has passed. It was EXCELLENT. I couldn't have dreamed of a better trip (except maybe not getting lost in a swampy river and thinking I was going to be eaten by alligators haha). Even that has turned out to make for a great story.
As a recap: We endured a painful 5 hour overnight flight to Tampa but it was well worth it. We were greeted by Mitch's Poing Poing (grandma) and Papa who took us to their home in Spring Hill. It was gorgeous! We slept most of Friday but ended our night with a fabulous dinner from Steak and Shake. In n Out, you've got yourself some competition! Who knew you could have two different kinds of milkshakes in one glass! It was perfect for the extremely indecisive diner such as myself.
Saturday we went to Homosassa Springs wild animal park. So cool! We took a boat to the park and saw an alligator and tons of turtles on the way. For the record...Florida takes the cake for most turtles I've ever seen. We got to see manatees get fed and an immense amount of incredibly cool other animals native to Florida. We also had a fantastic 4th of July dinner with the grandparents and ended the night by taking a run while watching fireworks.
Sunday we went kayaking on a river with an incredibly long native american name that I can't remember at the moment. We thought it was going to be a crystal clear river with places to swim and such. Wow were we wrong! Turned out to be the swampiest river I've ever been in. After a very long 10 mile trip, we made it back safe and sound. We saw SO many turtles! As Mitch said, I was "in hog heaven" haha.
Unfortunately we had to leave the incredibly ugly but incredibly cute "boys", the dogs Oliver and Wallace. There's just no way to explain those two haha. I already miss them...and the grandparents. They were so hospitable and I enjoyed quite the Rummikub tournament with Poing Poing. Rematch next time!
Poing Poing also gave me a gold ring with a sapphire and diamonds that Papa had given her during their engagement. I feel so blessed that she has so much faith in me as Mitch's future wife. It was very touching.
We're back to the real world for now but already planning another trip to the south.
In other news, we're thinking about going to school in Hawaii next year which is pretty exciting. We'll see if we can pull it off.
Off to shower and work!
